With spring cleaning season quickly coming to an end, it can be easy to lose momentum on your home cleaning. Now don’t get us wrong, we want you to enjoy your family time and the warm weather, we just don’t want you home to look like a disaster area after all that hard work you’ve put in! Here a some home maintenance and cleaning tips to consider as the summer heats up:
- If you have a fireplace, this is a great time to give it a scrub down. Vacuum out dirt and debris from any crevices, clean your glass covers with soapy water and scrub the tile and grout thoroughly. Doing this will get your fireplace in shape for the fall and winter.
- Summertime is the prime time for bugs to pay your home a visit. Regular pet inspections can help identify any problem areas, but you can also just be on the lookout for telltale signs of pests near the home and in the yard. Treat these immediately to avoid them getting into your home and causing a mess.
- Make sure your shower curtain is clean, first and foremost. Then, start leaving shower doors and curtains open following every use. This allows all surfaces to sufficiently dry and prevent mold and mildew buildup. Shower curtains can usually be washed in your washer, so be sure to use hot water, laundry detergent and a bit of bleach to sanitize.
- If you enjoy leaving your windows open at night to let the breeze in, be sure to clean the area between the glass and screen with a toothbrush and vacuum hose. This removes any dirt, debris and dead bugs that have built up, preventing them from getting into your room with the breeze.
- It can be easy to forget that our washing machines need to be cleaned, especially in the hot summer. Mold and mildew can grow rampant in this environment, which can leave your clothes less clean and smelly. To clean a washing machine, all you need to do is run an empty cycle with a cap full of laundry detergent. This will keep the smells and gunk in check.
- Employ door mats at each entrance to catch mud, dirt and debris that can easily be tracked in after being outside for hours. A mat either inside the home, outside the home, or even both places, cuts down a great deal on things getting tracked into the house. This cuts down on overall cleaning time while also sprucing up the area.
- Switch out your home air filters regularly to ensure pollen and dust get trapped and quality air is able to flow through. This also helps your HVAC system work well, which makes you home easier to cool.
